Gas Slit Camera (GSC) employs slit camera
optics and has the advantage of being free from
source contamination than a coded mask. The
entire GSC system is composed of six identical
units, and it uses 12 large-area proportional
counters filled with Xe gas to detect X-rays. It
had a total area of 5350
cm

and worked in the
energy range of 2-30 keV. This system covers a
wide rectangular FOV of 160

Solid-State Slit Camera (SSC) is a CCD camera
that works in 0.5–12 keV energy range. The SSC
is installed on the GSC and complements the GSC
by focusing on lower-energy X-rays with higher
resolution. SSC has two cameras - SSC-H and
SSC-Z, each has 16 CCD chips and is identical
to each other. It has a Field of view of

MAXI is an all-sky survey experiment and has a larger
coverage of the sky. It has identified several X-ray
sources from the initial days of operations. It discovered
several new transient sources and made regular follow-
up observations of them. MAXI has decade-long light
curves of different X-ray sources. MAXI contributed
significantly to Tidal Disruption Event (TDE) studies,
which are cataclysms where stars are torn apart by
supermassive black holes (SMBHs).
